About Us
East Thurrock United Ladies FC came into being officially on 1st June 2007, although the Management Committee had put in several months of hard work behind the scenes before that. Initially the club is fielding a single team at Under 16 level playing in the Essex County Girls Football League. We are affiliated to Essex County FA (affiliation number EGW00705).
The nucleus of the squad competed a successful 2006-07 season under the banner of local youth football club ‘Corringham Cosmos’, but decided to make the switch to East Thurrock United with a view to entering the Essex Women’s League for the 2009-10 season.
The general feeling amongst the parents, coaches and the girls themselves was that it would be advantageous to form an alliance with an established senior club in order to make a successful move into women’s football.
Ryman Premier League East Thurrock United is the local non-league club and they were very supportive of our proposal. It didn’t take too long to reach an agreement that is beneficial to both parties and we are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship.
East Thurrock United already ran several boys and youth teams and they saw the move into girls’ and women’s football as a natural extension of their successful ‘Football in the Community’ scheme. Rock’s First Team Manager, John Coventry, also accepted an invitation to become President of the new club and will be lending his coaching expertise on occasion.
The new club has set an ambitious target of achieving the FA Charter Standard in its first season. Having left a Charter Standard club (Cosmos) we want to gain that recognition in our own right as soon as possible. Essex County FA has been really supportive and we are running the club in accordance with strict FA Charter Standard guidelines from the start.
The FA Charter Standard is effectively a quality mark that sends out a clear message that coaches are FA qualified, CRB checked and fully aware of all Child Protection issues and it offers reassurance to parents that their child is in safe hands.
The club has shown its commitment to the welfare of its players and staff by taking out insurance cover against death and injury whilst playing, training or travelling with the club.
